Testing reading speeds:
/dev/mmcblk0p2:
Timing cached reads: 1488 MB in 2.00 seconds = 745.03 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 130 MB in 3.04 seconds = 42.77 MB/sec
There is no loss of speed compared to the internal drive, either reading or writing.
Mounting:
The assembly is specified in the
Wiki, but here is a picture of the prototype.
There are two folds (at 90° down, then 180° up), to reduce vias on the card and limit read/write speeds.
The ribbon passes underneath the Raspberry Pi, and the card-shaped PCB slides into the Raspberry Pi's SD drive.
On the Lan board side, the pad is slid forcefully into the connector, blue ribbon on top.
